A nitrate used to alleviate chest pain caused by angina. It dilates the blood vessels and is used to prevent and treat angina pectoris: left ventrical failure. This spray contains 200 metered doses of 400 micrograms per spray. This is sprayed under the tongue during application so as to ensure quick absorption, do not use more than two sprays during an attack.

Who can't take GTN?

According to the NHS at time of writing, the following patients cannot take GTN:

• Patients who have ever had an allergic reaction to GTN or any other medicine
• any recent brain or head injuries or problems, including bleeding in your brain and raised pressure in your head
• ever had a stroke
• any heart problems (other than angina), including a recent heart attack or heart failure
• low blood pressure (hypotension)
• anaemia
• Glaucoma
